Reducing carbon emissions is essential to preventing catastrophic climate change. While the amounts pumped into the atmosphere stayed fairly level for a few years, 2018 saw a large increase to 37.1 gigatons. CO2 is released during the combustion process of organic materials like wood, coal and natural gas. Since heat pumps are more efficient than conventional methods, they could reduce emissions by nearly 10 gigatons every year.
